Tom's Race Report from Arroyo Seco Raceway

09/11/05 - 09/12/05 Deming, New Mexico

ASMA Round 5

This will be the first weekend of the second half. I really need to get up to speed and start to run up front. Pat and I are going and staying at the motel and Mike is taking the motor home with Tom Boge to Arroyo Seco. I have a good day of practice, the bike feels good, I like running clockwise at Arroyo. My goal is to get into the 12’s. Race day I have 5 races and since I get comfortably into the 12’s feel I can run well race day. I have a good start in the money race, Formula Arroyo. Ivan gets out in first and wins wire to wire on his GSXR 1000, Roger is in second and I’m right behind him in third with Mike Shreve behind me. It looks like I might be able to catch Roger but when he sees the gap get close he pulls away a little. The white flag lap Shreve shows me a wheel going into the little carousel and I try to get on the gas a little too early and almost high side coming onto the front straight. By the time I collect myself Shreve gets away and I finish 4th, still one of my best races. My other races I run up front and feel good about running in the 11’s and heading to Vegas next weekend.
